Katrinaki Emmanouela

Emmanouela Katrinaki was born in 1968 in Heraklion, Crete.

She studied classical Philology at the University of Athens (1986-1990) and Social Anthropology/Ethnology at EHESS (École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Paris). She obtained a Master (DEA) and a Phd from EHESS, with a scholarship from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) (1997-2000). Her dissertation « Le cannibalisme dans le conte merveilleux grec. Questions d’interpétation et de typologie” has been published at the series of Folklore Fellows Communications.

 From 1995 to 2007 she participated in the research group that elaborated Georgios Megas’ Catalogue of Greek Folktales. The program was hosted by IAEN (Historic Archive Hellenic Youths, National Research Institution). The group analyzed over 4000 unpublished and published versions (in archived manuscripts, journals and books), and published 5 volumes of the Greek Catalogue, covering the Magic Tales (types ATU 300-749).    

She has presented papers in conferences and workshops in Greece and Europe, and published articles in Greek and European Journals and collective volumes, included the Enzyklopädie des Märchens (Göttingen).

She has taught at the University of Thessaly, at the International Hellenic University and organized seminars on Folktales in collaboration with several cultural organizations.

Member of Hellenic Folklore Society, Hellenic Society of Ethnology, International Society of Folk Narrative research (ISFNR), European Research Group on Oral Narratives (ERGON/GRENO).

Her academic interests include Oral literature, Folktales, Typology, Interpretation and Reception of Folktales, Legends.
