Civil Law (2011)
Born in Athens (1938). He studied at the Universities of Athens (1956-1960, Law diploma) and Munich (1963-1967, doctor degree, 1969-1971, Humboldt-Stiftung-Scholar). Professor of Civil Law at the Law Faculty of the University of Athens (1975 extraordinary Professor, 1979, professor ordinarius). Rector of the University of Athens (1983-1991). Doctor honoris causa of the Humboldt University, Berlin, of the Democritus University of Thrace, Greece and of the Department of Musicology of the Athens University. Fellow of the “Wissenschaftskolleg - Institute for Advanced Studies”, in Berlin. In 2011 he was elected Member of the Academy of Athens. Member of several Legislation Committees, member ad personam of the Permanent Committee of the European Rectors Conference (CRE) (1984-1989), member of the Administrative Board of the International Association of Universities (IAU) (1990-1995). Some of the other offices held: Member of the Special Supreme Court of Greece (1980-1981)· President of the Greek Organization of Intellectual Property (1995-1999)· President of the Greek Civil Law Association (1999-2000)· Deputy Minister of Press (May 1985, preelectoral period)· Minister of Justice (April 2000 – October 2001).
