He was born in Chios in 1933. He graduated from the Military Academy (Evelpidon) in the year 1954. Upon his graduation he was commissioned Second Lieutenant, Infantry (Infantry chief in his class). He has since continued studies in the Infantry School, the War College and the National Defense College of his country, as well as the Infantry School and the Command and Staff College of the U.S.A. Army. He was appointed commander in all the command echelons of the Army (Battalion level up to Field Army) and as staff officer in the Staff of Army Formations, as well as in the Army General Staff and the National Defense General Staff. He has served in the Cyprus National Guard and in SHAPE/NATO in Belgium. In the year 1990, he was appointed Chief of the Army General Staff with the rank of Lt. General and in 1933 he was promoted to Army General and appointed Chief of the National Defense General Staff. He retired in 1994 as Emeritus Chief of the National Defense General Staff. He has been honored with many distinctions, medals and decorations of his own and other countries. He has edited a great number of studies and articles on national matters, as well as on defense and strategy. He is Emeritus President and Member of the Board of Directors of several Institutes of Strategic Studies.
