1951, High School Diploma, Naxos High School, Grade: Excellent, highest rank graduate.
1951, Entrance into the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Athens – student accepted with the highest entrance test score. 
1956, Bachelor Degree, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Athens.
1959-72, Researcher at the Hellenic Folklore Research Centre – 1972, Director of the same institution.
1968, Ph.D., Faculty of Philosophy, University of Athens, Grade: “Excellent”.
1973, Lecturer, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Athens – 1981-2000: Professor of the same faculty.
Participation in numerous Greek and international conferences, some of which he himself organized.
President of the “Society for Cycladic Studies” and Director of its Yearbook for 20 years (presently Honorary President).
2002 to present, President of the Scientific Society of Athens, which publishes the periodical “Athena”. 
Vice-Chairman of the Board of the “Association for the Dissemination of Useful Books” (Syllogos pros Diadosin Ofelimon Vivlion).
Vice-Chairman of the Board of the “Society for Byzantine Studies”.
Member of the “European Fairy Tale Society” (Europäische Märchengesellschaft).
Author of several monographs and articles.
